This 19th century butter dish is just the kind of thing you want hanging around on a saturday morning when there is unexpected company for breakfast.
Ideally, there is actually butter underneath the butterfly-topped lid (hot toast makes the butterfly) and it sparks heated conversation about childhood memories of butterflies and you learn sooner rather than later that the unexpected company should never come for breakfast again. Valuable lesson learned, fabulous butter dish.
